A House Siding Review

Liquid Siding

A unique house siding technology has evolved.  It’s called Liquid Siding.  There are a few features of liquid siding that makes it stand out from the crowd.

It consist of a very thin layer of proprietary gas filled micro spheres that is applied to the exterior of your home no thicker than a business or credit card.  The particles reflect heat, extremely durable and protects your home from intense temperatures for many years to come.

This unique siding option is flexible and can be stretched up to 645% with the ability to reshape itself back to its original form.  This is particularly advantageous with shifting buildings that crack and split over time.  Liquid siding will make sure these cracks are not seen and sealed off from the elements.

It is resistant to dirt, mold, mildew and fading so maintenance is almost non-existent.  This unique composition is permeable, which allows for moisture that might be trapped under the surface to be released as vapor.  This is how it is able to be mold and mildew resistant.  There is no moisture for these bacteria to grow.

Liquid siding is applied in a three step system .  It looks like paint but is better.  Because of its resistance to dirt, mold, mildew and fading, maintenance is very low.  No more scrubbing and pressure cleaning with liquid siding.  Simply hose it off to keep it clean as needed.  It is also available in just about any color you desire.  It’s like going to Home Depot and having your paint mixed to your specifications.

Liquid Siding is as green as it gets. Because of its unique make up and application technique, no harmful chemicals are dispersed into the air and contains no carcinogens like vinyl siding.  This siding option has been used and tested under extreme climate conditions around the world with a success rate of up to twenty five years after it was first applied. The product is backed by a 25 year product guarantee by its manufacturers, and is transferable from one owner to the next in the event the house is sold.

This siding option incorporates a thermal layer that protects it from extreme temperatures making it very energy efficient.  It can reflect more heat than siding options like vinyl and brick and even white paint.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized Liquid Siding as an energy efficient source for reducing the costs of heating and air-conditioning.

Environmental House Siding

Going green with house siding is fairly straight forward. To this day, recycled materials are not being mass produced. There are a few environmental house siding choices out there that have been tested, but none can compete by way of demand, performance or price.

Stucco and Vinyl is as close as you can come to going green on your siding.  Other than the wire mesh and thin wood spacers, stucco compound is made of cement, water and plaster.  Vinyl is not made of any recycled materials, but is hard plastic that needs very little maintenance and can last for years.

At present, Vinyl siding has not been widely reused on other homes, nor has the siding itself been recycled to make other products.  On the same token, no trees need to be cut down to make vinyl siding, it doesn’t give off any gas and no chemicals drip from it and seep into the soil.

Metal siding is probably the worst green choice as it uses a nonrenewable resource.  You can have your old and discarded metal siding recycled, but this process is very expensive.  While wood siding is a slightly better option than metal, only because lumber is a renewable resource, the process of staining, treating and sealing wood siding is harmful to the environment and to humans.  Wood siding on an average needs to be treated every four to six years, so the long term environmental impact can be significant.

Until manufacturers come up with a total Green solution to house siding, which is probably already in the works,  your options are pretty much limited to stucco, vinyl, metal or wood, all of which have not really proven to be green in the true sense of the word.
